Dear Friends,

Summer is finally here—school’s out, the weather is beautiful, and we hope you're finding time to enjoy the best of Maine with family and friends. We also know this season can bring its own whirlwind of planning, travel, and childcare. However you’re spending these months, we’re grateful to have you as part of the Kids First community.

I'm writing today both with updates and to introduce myself. As of June, I’ve stepped in as Interim Executive Director following the departure of Tim Robbins, who served Kids First with dedication and heart over the past six years. We’re deeply grateful for his leadership. During this time of transition, I’m here to help guide the organization forward and support the search for our next Executive Director.

By way of background, my professional work focuses on strengthening mission-driven organizations. I lead a consulting practice based in Maine, helping nonprofits through leadership transitions, fundraising strategy, and organizational development. I’ve also served in executive leadership roles myself and bring a deep commitment to community-centered work. It’s an honor to partner with the talented team and devoted supporters of Kids First during this important chapter.

The past few months at Kids First have been full of impact. In May, our Gala & Auction raised over $50,000 thanks to the incredible generosity of volunteers, hosts, sponsors, donors, and bidders. These funds help ensure that no family is ever turned away from our services due to financial hardship.

In April, we piloted a new model—running our First Step Program for parents and Kids First for Kids! program for children simultaneously and in person. This new approach makes it easier for families to access support, and we’re excited to offer more of these joint sessions going forward.

We’re also thrilled to launch a new session of our ICOPE program this August, providing critical support for parents navigating high-conflict co-parenting situations. ICOPE continues to be one of our most in-demand and impactful offerings.

Our Institute for Advanced Professional Learning is also growing. This spring we hosted the third webinar in our Parallel Parenting series, with the fourth coming on July 31st entitled, “Through the Child’s Eyes: A Case for Parallel Parenting.” And—save the date!—keep an eye out for our October Institute, held in person at the Italian Heritage Center in Portland on October 20th. Details to follow.

Thank you, as always, for your support of Kids First. Your generosity and engagement make our work possible.

Warmly,

Emily Chaleff
Interim Executive Director
